This summary is for readability only. The numbered terms below are the binding ones.
- How to work safely is set out in the Workshop Safety Rules. Read them before you come. They are part of this Annex.
- You attend the safety briefing at the start of the session and answer a short comprehension check.
- Safety goggles are worn at the bench. We provide them.
- The component set is yours to keep. The tool set stays with DDI.
- Your finished drone is yours. How well it flies depends on your own build and setup.
A1. Scope and definitions
A1.1 This Annex applies to every Course and Workshop organised by DDI and forms part of the Agreement together with the General Terms and Conditions.
A1.2 Where this Annex conflicts with the General Terms, this Annex prevails for Courses and Workshops.
A1.3 Defined terms have the meaning given in section 2 of the General Terms.
A1.4 Activity description means the published description of the specific Course or Workshop on the DDI website, stating its content, level, duration, language of instruction, price, what is included, what the Participant must bring, and any prerequisites. The Activity description forms part of the Agreement.
A2. Participation and age
A2.1 The minimum age for a Course or Workshop is 12 years.
A2.2 Where the Participant is under 18, the parent or legal guardian registers and concludes the Agreement in accordance with section 10 of the General Terms.
A2.3 Participants under 16 use soldering irons and powered tools only under the direct supervision of an instructor.
A2.4 No prior experience is required unless the Activity description states otherwise.
A2.5 Instruction is given in the language stated in the Activity description. The Participant must be able to follow spoken safety instructions in that language.
A2.6 The Activity description states any equipment the Participant must bring, such as a laptop.
A3. Safety Rules, briefing and equipment
A3.1 The Workshop Safety Rules, published on the DDI website and supplied with the confirmation, form part of this Annex. They set out how work is carried out safely at the Facility.
A3.2 The Participant reads the Workshop Safety Rules before attending, attends the in-person safety briefing at the start of the session, and completes the short comprehension check. A Participant who has not done so may not use tools or equipment.
A3.3 Where a Participant arrives late and misses the briefing, the instructor decides whether it can be repeated or whether participation must be refused. Section 7 of the General Terms applies to the consequences.
A3.4 Where the Workshop Safety Rules and this Annex differ on how work is carried out safely, the Workshop Safety Rules prevail. This Annex governs who may take part, what DDI supplies, and the consequences of not complying.
A3.5 DDI provides the safety equipment needed for the Activity, including safety goggles, fume extraction at each soldering station, fire-resistant battery containment and a first-aid kit. The Participant uses that equipment as instructed and does not substitute or bypass it.
A3.6 DDI provides safety goggles and instructs Participants to wear them when working at the bench, that is when assembling, configuring or repairing a drone. A Participant who chooses not to wear them accepts the risk of doing so.
A3.7 For Courses and Workshops involving soldering or powered tools, DDI provides at least one instructor for every four Participants.
A3.8 A stocked first-aid kit, fire extinguishing equipment suitable for lithium battery fires, and a person trained in first aid are present at the Facility during Courses and Workshops.
A3.9 The Participant reports every incident, injury, burn, cut, damaged battery, thermal event or near miss to an instructor immediately. DDI records incidents internally.
A4. Flying during a Course or Workshop
A4.1 Where a Course or Workshop includes flying at the Facility, the safety rules in Annex B apply to that part of the Activity in addition to this Annex.
A4.2 Flying takes place only in the designated flying area, only when an instructor has opened that area, and only with the drone and configuration approved by the instructor.
A4.3 An instructor may refuse to allow a drone to fly where its build, configuration or condition gives cause for concern. That refusal is a safety decision and does not give rise to any right to a refund.
A5. Components: faults, replacement and ownership
A5.1 DDI supplies Components of the type and quality set out in the Activity description.
A5.2 Faulty Components. Where a Component is faulty on delivery or fails because of a manufacturing defect, DDI replaces it free of charge where a replacement is available, or offers an alternative solution, or credits its value. DDI makes reasonable efforts to resolve such faults before the end of the Activity.
A5.3 Components damaged by the Participant. DDI is under no obligation to replace a Component that the Participant damages during assembly. As a goodwill arrangement, DDI replaces such Components free of charge up to a total value of €30 per Participant. That amount applies once and is not renewed for each Course or Workshop the Participant attends. Beyond that amount, the Participant pays for replacements at the price DDI states at the time.
A5.4 Flight controllers are not covered by the goodwill arrangement in section A5.3, whatever their value, and a flight controller damaged by the Participant is replaced at the Participant’s own cost. This does not apply where the flight controller is faulty within the meaning of section A5.2.
A5.5 Components remain the property of DDI until they are handed over to the Participant at the Activity, in accordance with section 5.5 of the General Terms. Title passes on handover.
A5.6 Where a Participant does not complete their build during the Activity, the Components already handed over remain the Participant’s property and the Participant takes them home. DDI does not store unfinished builds unless expressly agreed.
A5.7 Nothing in this Annex limits any statutory right the Registrant has in respect of the Components.
A6. The finished drone and post-workshop support
A6.1 A drone assembled by the Participant is the Participant’s property and the Participant’s responsibility.
A6.2 DDI gives no guarantee as to the flight performance, tuning, range, endurance, durability or airworthiness of a drone assembled during a Course or Workshop. The result depends on the Participant’s own assembly, soldering, configuration and subsequent use.
A6.3 The fee does not include post-workshop technical support. Participants who hold a DDI community subscription may put questions about a drone built at a Course or Workshop to support@delftdrones.eu. Where DDI runs Drone Café sessions, Participants are also welcome there, on the terms in Annex C.
A6.4 Sections A6.2 and A6.3 do not affect the Participant’s rights under section A9.
A7. Equipment brought by the Participant
A7.1 A Course or Workshop is sold as a fixed package that includes a battery. The Activity description states exactly what is included. Equipment not listed there, such as a radio controller, charger or FPV goggles, is not included and is not sold separately by DDI.
A7.2 The Participant is responsible for equipment they bring, including its condition and its compliance with any applicable rules. Section 12.3 of the General Terms applies.
A7.3 Where firmware is installed, updated or reconfigured on equipment brought by the Participant, this is done at the Participant’s own risk. DDI is not liable for loss of settings or data, or for equipment rendered inoperable, arising from firmware or configuration changes. DDI will advise on the procedure and will take reasonable care.
A8. Batteries
A8.1 The battery included in the course package is handed to the Participant at the end of the build. The instructor goes through charging, storage, transport and disposal before the Participant leaves.
A8.2 DDI accepts discarded batteries and rechargeable batteries from end users free of charge, whether or not they came from DDI. Batteries are handed to a member of DDI staff. They are not left at the Facility unattended and are not placed in general waste.
A9. Certificates of participation
A9.1 DDI may issue a certificate of participation on completion of a Course or Workshop.
A9.2 A certificate is normally issued where the Participant has attended at least 80% of the Activity. DDI may withhold a certificate where the Participant has not attended a substantial part of the Activity.
A9.3 A certificate of participation confirms attendance and the content covered. It is not a formal qualification, is not accredited, and is not a certificate of remote pilot competency under EU drone regulations. It confers no right to operate a drone.
A10. Non-compliance
A10.1 Where a Participant does not comply with the rules in this Annex or the Workshop Safety Rules, an instructor may require them to stop using tools or equipment, may exclude them from part of the Activity, or may remove them from the Facility.
A10.2 Section 11 of the General Terms governs exclusion and its consequences.
