Delft Drone Initiative is a non-profit foundation dedicated to advancing education and research in First-Person-View (FPV) drone technology. Founded by a community of students and researchers from TU Delft, our mission is to make drone technology accessible, practical, and inspiring for learners of all levels.

Through hands-on workshops, collaborative projects, and applied engineering, we bridge theory and practice by designing, building, and piloting drones. We aim to foster innovation, technical skills, and a passion for aerial systems within and beyond the academic community.

Community

We are a community of technology enthusiasts brought together by a shared passion for drones and innovation. With members from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds, we foster collaboration and learning

Knowledge sharing

Together, we build and test drones, guided by the experience of senior members who support hands-on learning. This approach empowers participants to develop technical skills and confidence through practical engagement.

Engineering

We also organize and take part in engineering events, leveraging our diverse community and strong ties with research institutions to promote knowledge exchange and real-world impact.

About us

We build our own drones in the workshops. It is the perfect hobby to put your engineering skills into practice.

All the drones we build, are being tested. Our instructors make sure your drone is ready to fly. We have build many drones already and have a lot of knowledge on each of the components that go in the drone.

Of course after you have built your drone, you want to fly it. This is the most exciting part. Flying at almost 200 km/h as a bird through the sky.

FPV Drones

What are FPV Drones?

FPV (First Person View) drones are unmanned aerial vehicles equipped with onboard cameras that stream live video directly to the pilot. This immersive perspective allows users to experience flight as if they were in the cockpit, offering a unique and engaging way to navigate the skies.

Where are they used?

FPV drones are increasingly used in professional fields beyond recreation. In film and entertainment, they capture fast, dynamic aerial shots. In drone racing, they allow for agile, high-speed navigation. They also support applications in surveying, agriculture, and emergency response—delivering real-time visuals that improve accuracy, safety, and operational outcomes.
